As summer franchise superhero flicks go, it's tolerable...The big draw this time around is the Silver Surfer, one of the great Marvel comics creations. He looks like one of the Spartans from "300" dipped in a vat of silver paint...I appreciated the occasional attempt by director Tim Story and screen... MORE

I'll admit it. I was excited to see "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and watched it on opening day with friends on the huge Cinerama dome screen at the pricey-yet-worth-it Arclight theater in Hollywood.I'll even further admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.I liked it so much that I'm... "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" is not a giant improvement on the first film, but it is a much more enjoyable experience that brings more justice to the superquartet...For a movie based on a comic book, "Silver Surfer" is not an entirely awful experience. Sure, the movie has the obligato... MORE

Many recent reviews of the sequel have been built around the notion that “at least it’s better than the first one.” To me, that’s like proclaiming that your colostomy wasn’t quite as painful as your hemorrhoidectomy...The special effects are better than the 2005 movie, especially where the Silver Su... I just got back a few hours ago from watching Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. My nine-year-old and I are still buzzing about the movie. Although purists will have problems with the presentation, I loved it as a longtime fan and my son loved it just because it was so darn cool. He laughed ... MORE

Bland, predictable and cheesy, it barely passes for mediocre. As a mindless summertime sequel squeezed in after the triple threats of "Shrek the Third," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and "Spider-Man 3," it will likely (and deservingly) get lost in the blockbuster shuffle --- despite its... Still a less-than-fantastic film. Director Tim Story continues to put far too much emphasis on humor, even though his only superpower is the ability to turn jokes into lead. With bad casting, bad dialogue and bad direction, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is more of a wipeout.... MORE

The newest movie version, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," has no problem realizing the fantastic aspects of [Stan] Lee and [Jack] Kirby's creation. But unlike the "Spider-Man" films, the makers of the FF film series have no understanding of the depth and ambition Lee and Kirby brought t... MORE
