Actor Doug Jones told Sun Media that he was disappointed that his voice would not be used as the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. "Yes, I have some very definite feelings about that," says Jones. "But my political faith has to stay on (this path): 'I wish them all good luck and I hope the movie's a success!' That's all I can say."
It was announced in April that The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne would voice the Marvel character despite Jones creating the movement for the character and recording dialogue during production of the film. "Artistically, I would rather just see it stay intact with my performance," says Jones of the decision to hire Fishburne. "But Laurence Fishburne is a name and he has a good background with The Matrix franchise. And, if that sells more tickets than Doug Jones would have, that is probably why they did it. Can I blame them for that? That's not my department."
Having his voice replaced for a character he created is nothing new to Jones. Despite donning make-up for the character of Abe Sapien in Hellboy, producers later replaced his voice with actor David Hyde Pierce's in the final film. He will finally get the chance to be the voice of Abe Sapien in the upcoming Hellboy 2. Perhaps he will also get the chance to voice Silver Surfer in a rumored future spin-off?
